The Old Plough – Shortlanesend with a poem by Ruth Harry & Photos by Terry Harry

THE OLD PLOUGH

It’s the local village pub
And is the heart of Shortlanesend
Where Mark and Ian welcome you
On that you can depend

Besides the drinks and pub food
There are activities to choose
With quizzes, games and bingo
Don’t worry if you lose

Some runners-up get prizes
It’s a family friendly place
If darts or pool’s your interest
Or perhaps a meeting group’s your pace

If you knit, read or drink coffee
There’s a special group for you
Or just sit beside the log fire
And enjoy your favourite brew

There are specials on the menu
With lasagne on the list
Or if steak and ale’s your preference
It’s homemade and not to miss

Try the sunny outside seating
On the fabulous wooden deck
The cosy pods have heating
With garden tables also set

There is entertainment just for children
And even Santa Claus
With fundraising events
To support your local cause

Don’t forget the grocery pick-up
With donations from some stores
It’s a pub here to support you
With its inviting open doors

If you’re local or a tourist
There’s a welcome here for you
Make new friends or bring the family
So many fun things you can do
